Let’s hope Labyrinth stay safe from the Hollywood remakes.

Hollywood seems to have run out of ideas, so in the spirit of being green (or lazy) they’re just recycling old ones. Whether it’s rebooting franchises, remaking retro TV shows into movies or turning board games and action figures into films it seems nothing from our childhood is safe. But we’ve found a film which no one would dare remake due to its sheer ridiculousness. When we try and think of someone attempting to remake eighties wonder Labyrinth we just can’t picture it. Who would replace David Bowie’s mulleted Jareth? And would the creature of the maze become 3D CGI monstrosities?

We’re glad this film is too bizarre to be ‘re-imagined’, and to celebrate it in all its quirkiness we’ve found some very cool tees to support one of the best eighties movies. Labyrinth has become one of those films quoted and parodied by everyone, and watching it now makes you laugh rather than cringe. Obviously influenced by The Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland, Labyrinth told the story of a girl who wished her baby brother would be taken by goblins. And as the old saying goes, be careful what you wish for, as Jareth King of the goblins came to take little Toby away and make him one of his own.

Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) is forced to enter the Labyrinth and solve its mysteries to get her brother back. But Jareth won’t make the maze easy for her, as she’s helped and hindered by other goblins and bizarre creatures along the way. And these creatures are the creations of puppet master Jim Henson, meaning they’re strange but lovable, scary but hilarious.

We love the selection of retro tees out there for Labyrinth, whether you want the original poster, the logo featuring Jareth in owl form or Sarah and the Goblin King sharing an embrace there are plenty on the net. We even found one featuring the line ‘Say your right words!’ from the movie, but can you remember how Sarah responds? Take our mini Labyrinth quiz below!
