Bright Star costumes on display at Keats House
Posted by Team Boxwish 10 days ago
With Megan Fox unleashing her fangs in horror/ comedy Jennifer’s Body, spooky scares in Paranormal Activity and vampires and werewolves soon to slug it out in The Twilight Saga: New Moon, the world of the supernatural is dominating at cinemas. So nice then to see a more sedate and genteel film on release from last Friday, the period drama Bright Star which charts the ill-fated romance between poet, John Keats (played by Ben Whishaw) and his neighbour, Fanny Brawne (Abbie Cornish). And if this literary love story is more your pace, then head over to Keats House to see screen worn costumes from the film.

Fashion fix: Salvatore Ferragamo pheasant feather bag from Sex and the City
Posted by Team Boxwish 11 days ago
One day, there’s news about the clothes, the next it’s locations or plot, but one thing’s for sure there is one hungry appetite for all things Sex and the City 2. And as reports flood in revealing that Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and co. are in Morocco, filming scenes for this hugely anticipated sequel, we turn our attention back to the movie that introduced cinema audiences to the four fearless fashionistas, 2008’s Sex and the City. It was easily the most style savvy film of last year and though Bonfire Night might be over, we’re sparking off our Monday with a fiery fashion firework from the movie, the Salvatore Ferragamo pheasant feather bag.

There is so much to talk about with Twilight, the adaptation of the Stephenie Meyer novel that has sunken its fangs into so many young readers. There is the literary angle – how does the film compare to the book? There are the stunning locations in Portland, Oregon (standing in for Forks, Washington) that play host to the romance between high school student Bella (Kristen Stewart) and her vampire paramour Edward (Robert Pattinson). There are the quirky, high school fashions that combine modern edginess with classical elegance and even cars from Bella’s beaten up old 1963 Chevrolet C-10 truck to Edward’s Volvo C30 (originally a 1953 Chevy and a Volvo S60R in the book respectively), though for techie fans there is only one subject – the cool gadgets on show.

Kate Winslet brings £60 million to the British economy
Posted by Team Boxwish 11 days ago
Don’t you just love Kate Winslet? She constantly impresses with her screen roles, most notably her Oscar-winning turn in The Reader, champions natural and healthy body shapes for women rather than the Hollywood size zero craze and, despite her showbiz life, manages to seem very down-to-earth and just, well normal. Okay, so UK tabloid, The Daily Mail, which Kate has just successfully sued for libel and won £25,000 might not agree, having called her “the world’s most irritating actress” yet we reckon we’re in the happy majority with our pro-Kate love-in. And adding statistical weight to our argument comes news that the Reading-born actress is worth £60 million (nearly $99.7 million) to the British economy according to a survey by the UK Film Council. Can’t argue with the facts.

Steal Alice's look: Her make-up secrets from The Twilight Saga: New Moon
Posted by Team Boxwish 11 days ago
Bella (Kristen Stewart) might be the pretty girl next door that everyone relates to, but Alice Cullen (played by Ashley Greene) is The Twilight Saga’s style savvy fashionista. Being an immortal, she is blessed with classical good looks and the combination of her perky personality and fashion flair make her the one to watch in Forks. We love Alice’s vampy make-up in The Twilight Saga: New Moon, the work of key make-up stylist, Norma Patton-Hill (replacing Jeanne Van Phue who worked on Twilight) and if you do too, click over to find out how she achieves it.

eBay find: Megan Fox's bloody gloves from Jennifer's Body
Posted by Team Boxwish 14 days ago
However trendy the goth girl look is right now, clothes covered in blood are seriously unlikely to catch on with the mainstream. Carrie White (Sissy Spacek) championed the look back in the 1976 Stephen King horror and it didn’t work then, however that hasn’t deterred Megan Fox from having a go, the Transformers actress getting a blood bath in new comedy/ horror, Jennifer’s Body. Not that she’s an innocent bystander in all the bloodshed, nope, Fox’s Jennifer is the one causing it all and she wears the results of her carnage with pride, her prom dress outfit getting well and truly trashed. And we’ve spotted the blood-spattered opera gloves she wears with this outfit for auction online, making them week’s eBay find.
