Sex and the City 2 auditions attract thousands
Posted by Team Boxwish 6 months ago
Manhattan was the place to be yesterday as the open auditions for bit parts in the sequel to last year’s girlie blockbuster Sex and the City opened their doors to the public. As the Bat signal lights up the dark gloom of Gotham alerting the caped crusader that he’s needed, so fashionistas from across New York got wind of the casting call (perhaps a Manolo Blahnik silhouette was projected into the sky?) and they turned up in their thousands, 5,000 approximately, eager and ready to share the screen with their fashion idols Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon). And how many of them made the cut? That’d be telling.

Fashion fix of the week: Oakley square wire sunglasses from The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3

John Travolta’s carved out a career playing both heroes and villains, cleverly skipping back and forth between those to root for and those to boo and hiss at. And there’s one quick and simple way of noting whether he’s being a good boy or not – his fashion. His shadier selves are usually the best-dressed, think his sleek suits in Swordfish and The Punisher and so it follows that in new action thriller, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 in which the former hip-wiggler stars as criminal mastermind Ryder who hijacks a New York City subway car and holds the passengers to ransom, that he delivers in the style stakes. Sure, the ‘tache isn’t great (Travolta’s always struggled when it comes to anything hair-related), but his Oakley sunglasses sure are, so much so that we’re naming them as this week’s fashion fix.

What do you think about Funny People's MySpace placement?
Posted by Team Boxwish 6 months ago
Funny People, the latest comedy outing for the Judd Apatow gang, has topped the US box office this weekend, knocking those heroic guinea-pigs from G-Force from the top spot, albeit in somewhat lacklustre and underwhelming form. Reviews for the Adam Sandler/ Seth Rogen story about stand-up comedians has been decidedly mixed, though it’s not just the jokes that have impacted on audiences but the heavy brand placement of social networking site MySpace. Of course, less-than-subtle product placement is nothing new for Hollywood; however in this case MySpace claim they didn’t pay for it and yet they’ve scored one of the biggest movie spots this summer.
