Cinema release inspirations including Michael Jackson's This Is It

Happy Halloween Boxwishers! Okay, so we’re a day out, but it never hurts to get in the spooky spirit early. Not that you’d really know that we’re only hours away from All Hallows’ Eve from this week’s cinema releases. Music maestros are catered for with Michael Jackson’s This Is It, animation aficionados get 9 and for drama lovers there’s the critically acclaimed An Education, but nothing new for those looking for frights. So if you’re heading out for some Saturday night scares you might have to rely on past releases Saw VI, Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant and Zombieland. But on to the new crop…
If you see… Michael Jackson’s This Is It, a collection of rehearsal footage from Jacko’s rehearsals for his London residence at the O2 Arena.
Why Not Practice your moonwalk with the This Is It double CD soundtrack, packed with classic MJ favourites, unreleased demos, new single “This Is It” and a 36-page booklet. Dress for Halloween as the King of Pop (apparently it’s the most popular choice according to a new poll, see Related Content, right), by emulating one of his many iconic looks here. Or catch one of the rare MJ movie performances such as his version of the Scarecrow in The Wiz, an urban re-telling of The Wizard of Oz, his brief cameo in Men In Black 2 and most famously his pet project Michael Jackson – Moonwalker.
If you see… An Education, the critically praised Brit drama starring rising star Carey Mulligan (look out for her as Michael Douglas’s daughter in next year’s Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps) as a young teen coming of age in 1960s London, co-starring Peter Saarsgard, Dominic Cooper and Emma Thompson.
Why Not Read the autobiographical book of the same name by journalist Lynn Barber, upon which part of the film is based. Revel in the movie’s 60s setting with the swinging jazz soundtrack, packed with old school stars like Ray Charles and Mel Tormé and contemporary singers such as Duffy and Madeleine Peyroux. Or head to some of the London locations including St. John’s Smith Square in Westminster and Old Deer Park in Richmond.
If you see… 9, the animated fantasy flick set in a post-apocalyptic world where sackcloth doll, 9 (voiced by Elijah Wood) and his friends try to save humanity from destruction by machines.
Why Not Play along with the post-apocalyptic theme and create your own “Virtual Talisman”, paying tribute to what you loved most about life on earth at the official site. Get your very own character toy of 9 and of self-proclaimed leader, 1 voiced by Christopher Plummer. Or grab the beautiful score composed by Deborah Lurie and Danny Elfman, the long-time collaborator of director Tim Burton (who, along with Wanted’s Timur Bekmambetov, produced 9).
