Fashion fix: Salvatore Ferragamo pheasant feather bag from Sex and the City

One day, there’s news about the clothes, the next it’s locations or plot, but one thing’s for sure there is one hungry appetite for all things Sex and the City 2. And as reports flood in revealing that Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and co. are in Morocco, filming scenes for this hugely anticipated sequel, we turn our attention back to the movie that introduced cinema audiences to the four fearless fashionistas, 2008’s Sex and the City. It was easily the most style savvy film of last year and though Bonfire Night might be over, we’re sparking off our Monday with a fiery fashion firework from the movie, the Salvatore Ferragamo pheasant feather bag.
This gem was uncovered by SATC’s style guru, Patricia Field at the Ferragamo showroom and immediately won her over, scoring a spot in the wardrobe of Carrie. The New York writer wears it with an Oscar de la Renta dress and we think the combination is a complete knock-out. Not that we’d expect anything less from the luxury label, which also produced 2,000 pairs of shoes for Nicole Kidman’s elegant aristocrat, Lady Sarah Ashley in Australia (read more about that collaboration in Related Content, right).
The handbag, comprised of autumnal-coloured pheasant feathers bound with a leather clasp was sold in two sizes (Carrie favours the smaller one which retailed for $1,500, the larger, with shoulder strap, coming in at $3,100) is now pretty hard to find, so we’ve had our eagle-eyed style experts on the case and they’re uncovered some much more budget-friendly lookalikes.
There’s one made from faux feathers in similar shades that won’t break the bank at less than £30 from Marks and Spencer; a more vibrant, brightly coloured alternative with bold bursts of pink, purple, blue and green from ASOS.com that’s £25 or another from ASOS.com that’s also £25 but comes in a more muted black. All channeling that SATC vibe and without the designer price tag.
