London's Christmas lights switch-on celebrates with A Christmas Carol
Posted by Team Boxwish 17 days ago
Does a quiet and non-eventful Tuesday night wait in store for you today? Well, give the TV the heave-ho, crawl out of those sweatpants and kick off your slippers and head to central London where the capital will be gearing up for Christmas in Hollywood style. Tonight marks the world premiere of Disney’s A Christmas Carol, director Robert Zemeckis’s 3D re-telling of the classic Charles Dickens story and the stars of the film will be in attendance. But their roles include more than walking the red carpet and posing for paps as they’re also turning on London’s Christmas lights and to cap off a truly festive shindig, an enormous sing-along of Christmas carols is also planned. Guaranteed to get you in the spirit of Christmas.
The event will involve three top London locations, where the Christmas lights will be switched on by a star of the movie. In Oxford Circus, Jim Carrey (who earns his mega salary performing as Scrooge throughout each period of his life as well as the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future) will be doing the honours; at Regent Street it will be the turn of Mr Darcy himself, Colin Firth (who plays Scrooge’s kind-hearted nephew, Fred) and at St Paul’s Cathedral, cockney geezer Bob Hoskins (who plays Scrooge’s one-time mentor, Mr. Fezziwig) will be having a go.
These switch-ons are scheduled for around 6.15pm, each one prefaced by a free concert starting at 5pm (artists yet to be confirmed), and then it’s off to Leicester Square for a Christmas carol sing-along at 6.20pm (ish). This will be led by world famous tenor Andrea Bocelli and hopes to be a record-breaking event. And lastly comes the big premiere, which will be attended by the actors, Zemeckis and the movie’s producers, Steve Starkey and Jack Rapke.
So warm up your vocal chords and head into London tonight for some truly festive film fun. No bah humbugs allowed!
