Two days to go and here at Boxwish HQ, we’re perfecting our vampire looks ready for the big night, however we know that some of you are still umming and ahhing about your Halloween costume. Indeed with celebrations for the event seemingly getting bigger and bigger every year, it’s important to nail your look and really go for it. But what if you’re fresh out of filmic inspiration? Well, US movie site Fandango.com is at hand, having conducted a poll asking moviegoers how they will dress this spooky season assembling a list that is rich with fun ideas (and we’ve got many of them ready to buy here). And coming out on top is none other than the much missed King of Pop, the late Michael Jackson who is the star of current cinema release, This Is It. Click over to find out the other movie gods worthy of emulating.

Jacko, whose rehearsal footage for his never realised residence at the O2 Arena has now been edited into a documentary, scored 13 per cent of the vote, seeing off competition from two of 2009’s most beloved leading men – the side-burned superhero, Wolverine (played by People magazine’s sexiest man, Hugh Jackman) in X-Men Origins: Wolverine with 11 per cent (get a Wolverine Mask), and vampire heart-throb Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) in the upcoming The Twilight Saga: New Moon, who scored 10 per cent (steal his style here).

The rest of the top five was filled out by G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra’s sleek ninja, Snake Eyes (played by Hollywood stuntman extraordinaire, Ray Park) with 7 per cent and him of the blue skin and not much else, Dr Manhattan (Billy Crudup) from graphic novel sensation, Watchmen with 6 per cent (get a Dr Manhattan Mask).

While positions five to 10 shaped up like this: 6. Cuddly mall security guard, Paul Blart (Kevin James) from comedy hit Paul Blart: Mall Cop – 3 per cent; 7. Goofball Alan (Zach Galifanaikis) complete with baby from breakout smash, The Hangover – 3 per cent (get his Human Tree T-Shirt and Demi Tortoise Nylon Blublocker Sunglasses); 8. Bella’s (Kristen Stewart) werewolf buddy, Jacob (Taylor Lautner) from The Twilight Saga: New Moon – 3 per cent; 9. Wise-cracking zombie killer Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) as seen in Zombieland – 2 per cent (get his Real Deal Brazil Tarp Hat); and 10. Vigilante Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley) and his ink blot mask from Watchmen – 2 per cent (get the Rorschach Costume, the Deluxe Rorschach Mask or Stocking Rorschach Mask).

Having gone a little fancy dress crazy in recent weeks, we’re really interested by these results here at Boxwish and are struck by a number of observations. Chiefly, all of these costumes are for men suggesting that either women aren’t dressing up, are too coy to divulge details of their costumes or are going as men. Also of a gender nature is the revelation that New Moon has appeal to men as well as women with the two male heroes, Edward and Jacob, both featured.

Watchmen is also a (more expected) fan favourite, but with Dr Manhattan triumphing over Rorschach does this mean lots of butt-naked blue men? While comedy has also proven popular with The Hangover, Zombieland and Paul Blart: Mall Cop all flying the flag and consisting of costumes that are easily replicated without hitting a fancy dress store, as is Michael Jackson. But the big question remains – no Joker, really?

What do you make of these results, Boxwishers? Has your fancy dress idea made the top ten or are you opting for something a little more original or eccentric come All Hallows’ Eve? Let us know (we promise we won’t copy!)
