Vitamin Water launches The Twilight Saga: New Moon advert

Earlier in the year we told you about the tie-in Burger King were planning with The Twilight Saga: New Moon, which is due to launch in restaurants on 16th November. As part of a promotion BK will be giving away vouchers for retail outlets, New Moon merchandise offers and collectible cards with BK Burger Shots six-pack meals. It might seem strange to associate a fast food chain with creatures that don’t eat but we thought the wolf pack might appreciate the burgers. However, it seems there’s a contender for strangest New Moon tie-in as Vitamin Water has just launched a vamp-themed TV advert and Facebook page.

In the advert Edward (Robert Pattinson) says goodbye to Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Jacob (Taylor Lautner) shows off some of his new skills the voiceover tells us that “some thirsts can never be quenched”, referring to the blood thirsty vampires we wonder? But it’s all okay as he goes on to say “luckily yours can” as bottles of Vitamin Water are revealed from within the New Moon style trees. So are we supposed to believe that vampires and werewolves drink Vitamin Water to keep their strength up? Or maybe they’re hoping Bella will work her magic to make it the most sought after drink in town as she’s done with many jackets recently (the BB Dakota and the Billabong Hannah). Either way we don’t think New Moon needs any help in the advertising department, so are Vitamin Water desperately trying to grab the attention of impressionable young Twifans?

Hand in hand with the advert goes the Facebook page, which boasts clips, wallpapers and an exclusive screensaver. The company are no strangers to using Facebook as a marketing tool as they have shown with their ‘Flavor Creator’ application and competition, asking fans to help them come up with a new flavour of the healthy drink. They even seem to be comparing the insatiable need vampires have for blood with human’s drinking water, saying: “while they quench their thirst, satisfy yours with Vitamin Water”.

So, is aiming a drink usually bought by adults to such a young market like Twilight’s a bit much, especially when selling your product by saying it “helps to fulfil your body’s daily needs”? As well as being a strange pairing the advert itself is extremely camp and thrown together – it almost seems fan-made. We’re really not sure if members of the Volturi need “more power, more energy, more antioxidant protection” to go about their daily business, what about you?
