Wolverine and Underworld's Selene named sexiest movie monsters
Posted by Team Boxwish 18 days ago
Have a good Halloween, Boxwishers? We sure did here at Boxwish HQ, singing along to the “Monster Mash” and carving our Jack-O’Lantern, but when it came to dressing up we played it quite low-key, with just Ella truly flying the flag (see Related Content, right). But we know which silver screen stars we’ll be emulating come Halloween 2010, as Wolverine, the beefy berserker from the X-Men movies and Selene from the Underworld franchise have been named the sexiest movie monsters in a new poll. Okay, so he has some scarily sharp claws, a short temper and some ferocious sideburns, but Wolverine a monster? Nah, he’s a tame pussy-cat…
It’s not surprising that Jackman’s metal-clawed mutant came out on top considering how nicely the Aussie actor fills out Wolverine’s vest (pictured), that and he’s currently People magazine’s sexiest man alive giving the superhero a supreme advantage with over 41 per cent of the vote. He roundly trumped the competition with Johnny Depp’s goth cutie, Edward Scissorhands a distant second scoring 20.5 per cent (note they both have metal claws – great for opening tins, less good for getting through airport security). While third place went to Tom Cruise’s vampire Lestat from Interview with the Vampire (15 per cent).
But it’s not just Hollywood’s men that have cornered the market in looking “scary but sexy”, the name of the poll conducted by casual dating site BeNaughty.com, as fearsome females are also popular, with Selene, Kate Beckinsale’s leather-clad bloodsucker from the Underworld films, coming out on top with an impressive 42 per cent of the votes cast (incidentally, Beckinsale also holds a “sexiest” magazine title, namely from Esquire). She beat Megan Fox’s similarly blood-thirsty Jennifer from high school horror, Jennifer’s Body (an impressive showing considering the Diablo Cody scripted film isn’t out in the UK until Friday) who netted 19 per cent. And claiming third was Sil (Natasha Henstridge) from sci-fi chiller Species (16 per cent).
The top results make for interesting reading. Girls clearly like spiky-handed fellas, men like supernatural women that can take them in a fight and both sexes have a soft spot (probably on the neck) for vampires. Which does beg the question, how come vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) or werewolf Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) from Twilight and its follow-up, The Twilight Saga: New Moon didn’t make the cut? Are they considered too sweet-natured and wholesome to be proper villains or are subscribers to Benaughty.com immune to the charm of the Twilight twosome, who are perhaps too old for such fresh-faced totty? We’d love for you to weigh in on the debate Boxwishers by leaving a comment below.
