Win a Volvo XC60 just like Edward's in The Twilight Saga: New Moon
Posted by Team Boxwish about 8 hours ago
Last year, Volvo failed to cash in on the promotional platform offered to them with Twilight, but this year with the release of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, they haven’t missed a trick. In the first big screen instalment of the Stephenie Meyer saga, the Swedish car company were featured as Edward (Robert Pattinson) raced around the roads of Forks and Port Angeles in a Volvo C30 coupe and now he’s traded that in and instead sits behind the wheel in his new XC60. And not only have Volvo unleashed a big advertising campaign that ties in with the movie (the slogan reading, “Come and see what drives Edward”), but they’re also offering the chance to win a free XC60 so you can enjoy Edward’s car.

Kohl's department store taps into Twilight fashion trends
Posted by Team Boxwish about 11 hours ago
Hot Topic is at it, so is Nordstrom and now Kohl’s is too. The US department store has jumped aboard the Twilight bandwagon, playing up the connection between their fashions and those seen onscreen in The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Unlike the other two shops, there’s no official link between Kohl’s and The Twilight Saga, but that isn’t stopping them as they try to appeal to us Twifans, angling to become a shopping destination to create Twilight-inspired looks. Don’t they know that’s our job here at Boxwish!

Vatican speaks out against The Twilight Saga: New Moon
Posted by Team Boxwish about 12 hours ago
File this one under “no, you don’t say” as apparently the Vatican is upset with The Twilight Saga: New Moon. After expressing disapproval at the Harry Potter books and films and likewise the Dan Brown efforts, The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, the Catholic Church has now taken offense at the latest instalment of the Stephenie Meyer saga. Interesting that there was no need to grumble the first time around, when Twilight hit cinemas last year or even when the books were first published. But now that it’s a global phenomenon, there’s reason to get a bit uppity. Brace yourselves, here we go again…

Gerard Butler named favourite Hollywood Brit
Posted by Team Boxwish about 15 hours ago
Just recently Robert Pattinson (you know him? He’s some fella in some film about vampires or something) lamented the lack of acting jobs in the UK, explaining that’s why so many Brits head to Hollywood for work. And boy, he’s certainly right. Tinseltown is chokers with UK talent, both in front of the camera and behind, men and women and character actors as well as top leading lights. And so with this wealth of home-grown stars, online rental giant LOVEFiLM has asked their subscribers to vote for their top British actor and coming out on top is none other than Scottish beef-cake, Gerard Butler. Yup, the Paisley-born actor has channelled his sparkly-eyed charm into both boys favourites like 300, Unlawful Citizen (pictured) and RocknRolla and more female-friendly fare like The Ugly Truth and P.S. I Love You and it’s obviously worked well for him. But who did he beat in the poll? Click over to find out.

Steal Jacob's look: His hair secrets from The Twilight Saga: New Moon
Posted by Team Boxwish 1 day ago
There are so many possible divisions in The Twilight Saga. Are you Team Edward or Team Jacob? A fan of the Cullens or do you prefer the wolf pack? And on a more light-hearted note, do you prefer Jacob (Taylor Lautner) with long hair or short? It’s a debate that has split fans of the young Native American who befriends Bella (Kristen Stewart) and proves a love rival to Edward (Robert Pattinson). Some Twifans love him with his long glossy black locks, for others the shorter, spikier cut he introduces in The Twilight Saga: New Moon works better, but the decision to send Jacob to the barber’s was one of the few decisions not down to key hairstylist Thom McIntyre. The snip is noted in the Stephenie Meyer book, heightening the physical transformation of Jacob from young teen into a muscular young man and so it was case of making this happen onscreen.

Twilight Beauty range now available in the UK
Posted by Team Boxwish 1 day ago
Better late than never, eh? In September, we reported on the US launch of the new make-up range inspired by The Twilight Saga and here in the UK we’ve been patiently waiting, waiting until the cosmetic goodies would cross the Atlantic and be available in Blighty. Well, it seems that our good behaviour has paid off as online retailer Simple Beauty has announced that it’s now stocking the make-up. But act quickly Twifans, as the site warns that there’s only limited stock available!

Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter kick off Tim Burton event
Posted by Team Boxwish 1 day ago
Calling all Tim Burton fans! A few weeks back, we told you about the upcoming exhibition that looks back at the director’s showbiz career and on Tuesday it kicked off in style with a benefit dinner at New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). In attendance was the man of the moment himself, along with his partner and frequent star of his films, Helena Bonham Carter, who, dressed in a black gown, boots and with messy bed hair looked like she’s wandered straight from the set of one of his films. Also rucking up to support his longtime collaborator was People magazine’s newly crowned sexiest man, Johnny Depp and he and Helena hosted the event which also boasted among its glamorous ranks Ashley Greene (aka Alice Cullen in The Twilight Saga), iconic Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

The Hollywood sign named most problematic L.A. filming location
Posted by Team Boxwish 1 day ago
Celebrated and recognised across the globe as the home of the film industry, Hollywood and the wider district of Los Angeles isn’t always easy for filmmakers to shoot in. As film crews head to places like Vancouver and Chicago, both famed for the tax breaks they offer productions (incentives that have worked their magic on the likes of money-spinners such as The Dark Knight and The Twilight Saga: New Moon), the sprawling Californian city has sometimes struggled to hold onto the dream factory it’s known for. Films like 500 Days of Summer have recently done their bit to put L.A. back on the movie map, featuring sights such as the Bradbury Building and the Barclay Hotel, but of all the local hotspots that challenge filmmakers the Hollywood sign has been named the most problematic in a new survey.

Steal Edward's look: His hair secrets from The Twilight Saga: New Moon
Posted by Team Boxwish 2 days ago
Last week, we snooped around the chic wardrobe of The Twilight Saga’s gentleman vampire, Edward (Robert Pattinson) stealing his style and now we’ve got the lowdown on his clothes, we’re turning our attention to his hair. Oh, the hair. When it comes to Edward seemingly nothing matters more in his look than his hair. Stephenie Meyer fixates on the bronzed barnet of the Cullen heart-throb throughout the books and fittingly, it was sculpted and showy in the first Twilight film, with Robert even joking recently that “in a lot of ways the hair is 75 per cent of my performance.” Back then it was head hairstylist Mary Ann Valdes and Beverly Hills salon owner Stuart Gavert making the decisions, but this time around, for The Twilight Saga: New Moon, key hairstylist Thom McIntyre is calling the shots and wielding the scissors…

Merchandise swag: Bella replica jewellery set from The Twilight Saga: New Moon
Posted by Team Boxwish 2 days ago
Fashion focused Twifans couldn’t help but fall in love with all the gorgeous items on show in last year’s Twilight. For those looking to vamp it up as a Cullen, a whole replica range of their Cullen crest goodies was released, inviting everyone to flaunt their inclusion in the coolest (literally!) gang in Forks (get yours at Related Content, right). However, for those looking for a little splash of Bella (Kristen Stewart) style, it proved tougher with fans reduced to hunting down vague lookalikes or making their own versions of our heroine’s tempting trinkets. But this is thankfully, no longer the case as we have found this fantastic replica set of Bella’s most worn accessories.

Twilight more popular than Harry Potter with Aussies
Posted by Team Boxwish 2 days ago
Here at Boxwish HQ, we’re not sure who would win in a face-off between Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and Twilight’s Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). The boy wizard’s got magic on his side along with two devoted chums in Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson), while the ice-cool vamp is immortal, can read minds and is backed up by the Cullen clan. It’s a toughie and we’re not ashamed to say has led to some heated debates, however it seems a lot more cut and dried for Aussie youngsters who have voted in their numbers in favour of the Stephenie Meyer vampire and his world.

The Exorcist writer talks up possible TV mini-series
Posted by Team Boxwish 2 days ago
Okay, so we get that many of the movies currently being mentioned as possible TV shows are very in vogue and current. There was director Roland Emmerich talking up the possibility of his current blockbuster 2012 hitting the small screen and also discussed a few months back as a TV contender was literary tear-jerker, The Time Traveler’s Wife (see Related Content, right). But what really baffles us is the planned resurrection of past films that have long deserted the limelight. We’re talking Teen Wolf and Heathers and especially the latest to jump aboard this network bandwagon – The Exorcist. Yes, Regan could be pea-souping her mum and scaring priests in your living room soon according to William Peter Blatty, the author and subsequent screenwriter of the supernatural spine-chiller.

Fashion fix: UGG Adirondack Boots from The Twilight Saga: New Moon
Posted by Team Boxwish 2 days ago
That Bella Swan’s (Kristen Stewart) one smart cookie. She cruises through her academic studies (winning the Golden Onion prize in biology class, no less), loves her classic literature (such as Wuthering Heights) and is the only girl in decades to charm immortal heartthrob Edward (Robert Pattinson). Not bad going! She also realises pretty quickly that the clothes she wore back in sunny Phoenix, Arizona aren’t going to cut it now that she’s moved to rainy Forks, and adapts her wardrobe for the daily onslaught of drizzle. And standing out among these winter warmers are the UGG Adirondack boots she dons in both Twilight and The Twilight Saga: New Moon, which we just can’t get enough of!

Zombieland star Jesse Eisenberg caught taking clothes from film set
Posted by Team Boxwish 2 days ago
Sometimes there’s seemingly no difference between onscreen and offscreen. Just look at the whole Twilight business. Edward and Bella are inseparable and loved-up onscreen and offscreen there are rumours that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are likewise. Sure, it might all just be gossip and speculation, but often we like to imagine that what we see at the cinema is the same as real life. And it’s not just us, the viewers that enjoy blurring this line as many Hollywood stars take it a step further by wearing their actual movie costumes in their everyday lives. Just a few months ago, Cameron Diaz admitted she loves stepping out as herself in her Being John Malkovich costumes (see Related Content, right) and now Jesse Eisenberg, rising star of Zombieland and Adventureland (he likes his “lands”) has spoken of his penchant for pinching screen clothes, a tendency that can prove embarrassing…

Steal the Nomads' look: Victoria and Laurent's secrets from The Twilight Saga: New Moon
Posted by Team Boxwish 3 days ago
In Twilight, the Nomad vampires were the resident bad guys on the block, however with The Twilight Saga: New Moon all that changes with the introduction of the fearsome Volturi. Not that Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre) and Laurent (Edi Gathegi) are disappearing into the background, oh no siree. The pair has split up and is no longer joined in their rank by James (Cam Gigandet), but their fashion focus is undiminished albeit with a few changes from the last time we saw them.

Examining the life of legendary aviator Amelia Earhart (as played by double Oscar-winner Hilary Swank), it’s packed full of flying fashions and even boasts the cool factor of celebrated brand, Belstaff.

Leona Lewis singing the theme song for Avatar
Posted by Team Boxwish 3 days ago
It seems like yonks (yes, we said yonks – go with it) since the last truly great power ballad soundtrack song. So many of the recent musical movie efforts have been a bit more edgy and contemporary, like Adam Lambert’s “For Your Entertainment” from 2012, Death Cab for Cutie’s “Meet Me on the Equinox” for The Twilight Saga: New Moon or Linkin Park’s “New Divide” for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Hell, even that bastion of belters, James Bond even offered us something a little less conventional for last year’s Quantum of Solace by putting Jack White and Alicia Keys together for “Another Way to Die”. Good job then that we’ve got a new James Cameron flick on the horizon as the man who brought us Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” from watery tear-jerker, Titanic has roped in none other than Leona Lewis for the upcoming Avatar. Power ballad heaven here we come!

Team Boxwish quizzed: What film best sums up your days at school/ college/ University?
Posted by Team Boxwish 3 days ago
A big Boxwish top o’ the morning to you on this, International Students’ Day. Yup, it may have just seemed like an ordinary, bog standard Tuesday, but in fact it’s a great time to reflect on your days spent in education. Of course, these might have been few and far between like the naughty bunker, Ferris Bueller or maybe you were a devoted pupil like Hermione from Harry Potter. Either way, we all have our own story of what life was (or is) like when you had to strip off for P.E., began your day with the ringing of a bell and learned the French for “where is the train station?” And if school or later education was less than spectacular, we’re also musing on which movie school we’d have preferred to attend. So enjoy International Students’ Day as we ask: “What film best sums up your days at school/ college/ University?”

eBay find: Script for The Twilight Saga: New Moon signed by cast
Posted by Team Boxwish 4 days ago
There’s no mystery about the plot of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, that’s a given, however that doesn’t stop us Twifans from keenly counting down until we get to sample its cinematic delights this Friday. And while we’re hoping that there aren’t too many drastic tweaks to the story (we can cope with Jacob (Taylor Lautner) giving Bella (Kristen Stewart) a dreamcatcher for her birthday, less acceptable would be Bella crushing on Sam Uley or the Volturi being a pack of spineless wimps), yet we can’t wait to see how New Moon’s made the transition from prose to dialogue. What will they say, how will they say it and oh, so much more. And revealing these insider secrets is this copy of the New Moon script now for sale on eBay. Oh, and it’s signed by eight Twilight stars. Did we forget to mention that?

Is the British poster for Couples Retreat racist?
Posted by Team Boxwish 4 days ago
Forget the lapping waves of the Pacific Ocean as tropical rom-com Couples Retreat is in hot water. The flick which looks at the holiday hijinks of four couples as they head to an isolated South Pacific resort boasting special “couples skills building” has come under fire for removing two of its black actors from the British promotional poster. So, let’s examine the evidence, Boxwishers. One look at the US poster (pictured left) reveals four couples: Vince Vaughn and Malin Akerman, Jason Bateman and Kristen Bell, Jon Favreau and Kristin Davis and Faizon Love and Kali Hawk, however the British one (pictured right) has somehow lost two of them, its numbers dwindling to just six. And it’s not just visually that the black performers are omitted, as their names have also been cut.
