Thelma and Louise Ford Thunderbird up for sale
When you’re on the run from the police, it’s always nice to do so in style (obviously we’re not talking from experience here – we’re just taking our cue from the movies). Just look at Thelma and Louise in the feminist road movie of the same name. As their planned fishing trip sharply deteriorates into murder, crime and a huge man-hunt for them, the pair isn’t crammed into some ugly tin-can of a car. Oh no, they ride about in a green 1966 Ford Thunderbird convertible – nice. And now one of the five Thunderbirds used during the 1991 classic is hitting the market as part of the Auto Moto d’Epoca auctions in Italy next month.
Auto auction experts Coys are organising the event which will see 80 top cars go under the hammer at Padova in Northern Italy, but undoubtedly the star attraction is the Thunderbird with its impressive cinematic pedigree (it HAS hosted the derrieres of Hollywood leading ladies Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis). The car is expected to sell for between €25,000 and €30,000 and has been in Italy since shooting on the film wrapped all those years ago. On the car, Gregor Wenner of Coys has said: “COYS has a reputation for selling cars that have been in famous movies like the Batmobile that was sold in the UK in 2006. This 1964 Thunderbird is in good condition throughout and is going to receive a lot of attention from movie buffs worldwide.”
So, if you’re feeling a bit flush and want to grab yourself a classic movie motor head over to the Coys website for more information. Let’s just hope the Thunderbird’s new owner takes better care of it than Thelma and Louise did.
