Daniel Craig refuses to wear Bond's swimming trunks

When Daniel Craig was cast as James Bond back in 2005 (nearly three years ago – doesn’t that make you feel old?) there were a few eyebrows raised. Critics spewed that he was too short, too blonde and too wimpy to bring the much-loved action-hero to life and a website www.DanielCraigIsNotBond.com vehemently campaigned against it. Of course, all that tosh has long since been forgotten what with the runaway commercial and critical success of Casino Royale and now we all eagerly count down the days until its follow-up, Quantum of Solace hits cinemas. But one of the popular ingredients of Royale is to be absent from the latest outing. No, not the Aston Martins, Bond girls or tropical locations but the swimming trunks. Sad news indeed.

Craig has said he is “not going to put those trunks on ever again”, referring to the snug pale blue trunks that made a memorable appearance as he appeared from the sea. Made by Italian brand, La Perla, the trunks helped establish Craig as a sex symbol, but the actor seems determined that it should be his acting and nothing else that people notice. Does this mean he’s been hitting the pies and gotten too flabby to shed the clothes? Nothing of the sort (he IS Bond after all), instead he reckons he’ll be less buff Adonis, more lean, mean, fighting machine, explaining: “I trained differently this time.”

Still, one source considers that any Craig flesh will be well-received, commenting that “even if he has spent less time in the gym and will be wearing more clothes, Daniel would be hard-pushed to disappoint his female fans.” We’ll find out next month when Quantum of Solace is released.

It was pretty sad the way women got so excited about Daniel Craig wearing these trunks - like they'd never seen a topless guy before. And its not like he's that great looking either. Connery rules as Bond!

I don't know, I thought he was pretty good. I'm not a woman so I'm not really qualified to comment on how good he looked in his trunks, but from a man's perspective I was jealous!
