Could next month’s Quantum of Solace be the most product-endorsed Bond film in the long-running franchise’s history? That’s the question we’re chewing on at Boxwish HQ today. After 2002’s Die Another Day was nicknamed “Buy Another Day” after packing in 20 brands paying for screen time, accusations of 007 selling-out quietened with Casino Royale only featuring six. But things are expected to ramp up again for Bond’s 22nd cinematic outing, as joining the likes of regulars Sony, Aston Martin and Omega is British private jet company Ocean Sky which has splashed out an estimated £600,000 on the biggest Bond tie-in ever. Credit crunch – what credit crunch?

So how does the deal work? Well, Ocean Sky contributed five of its jets, valued at £100 million to fly the movie’s cast and crew out to Panama for a week. A one hour use of their jets costs £5,000 but they were used by Quantum of Solace for a week, hence the hefty sum. And what bang do they get for their buck? The brand will turn up onscreen eight times, including the planes’ interiors and exteriors, an airhostess in their uniform and a check-in desk (see pic above).

While the ha-yuge costs involved might deter some companies, Ocean Sky is psyched at the super-spy connection with their owner Kurosh Tehranchian enthusing: “It was a major investment for us financially and in terms of plane usage but it is something we feel will be very worthwhile in terms of the exposure it gives us. The James Bond brand is unique. It is known worldwide, yet it is completely non-controversial: everyone likes it. It was something we felt we wanted to be associated with.”

Let’s hope the product placement pays off and the company nails the market it’s going for – cinematic spies. Jason Bourne, Ethan Hunt and Maxwell Smart start booking your Ocean Sky flights NOW!

  • £600,000? For a firm that isn't even aimed at most people, as I don't know about you, but I can't quite afford a private jet. It seems crazy. at least I can afford to drink the coke zero.
