For those of you in the Battersea area, prepare to be inundated with classic car lovers come the end of the month as the district is playing host to a top car auction. This October’s “Automobiles of London” collection follows on from last year’s which, with total sales of over £18,000,000, was the most successful car auction ever known on British soil. This year’s event will see 100 rare cars going under the hammer at Battersea Evolution on 28th and 29th October with the most exciting motor the 1963 250 GT California Spyder SWB driven by Hollywood leading lady Cameron Diaz in 2003’s Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. And the expected price tag for such a car? £3.5 million. For that – I’d expect Cameron Diaz as well!

Joining the red Ferrari as the collection’s top attractions are a silver 1965 Aston Martin DB5 used in Robbie Williams’ “Millennium” music video and a pale blue 155 Ford Thunderbird once owned by John Travolta. RM Auctions, the organisers behind the event, expect car lovers with deep pockets to jet into London from all over the world and hope that the words “credit crunch” are conspicuously absent from the proceedings. “People are still spending a lot of money on old cars even when there is so much going on in the world,” says Peter Wallman of RM Auctions. “This is something still working for us. It is often people who have been in industry for years and who are treating themselves.”

To find out how you can “treat yourself” at the auction (or just stare enviously at all the cars), head over to the RM Auctions website for more info.
