When your product is synonymous with the coolest super spy ever to grace the silver screen, you know you’re in good shape. Just look at Aston Martin. Back in September, the luxury car company was voted the coolest brand in a government survey thanks to ties with James Bond and now their DB5 has proved popular with viewers of digital TV station Dave, coming up trumps as the most iconic car ever in their poll of 2,300 people. Wow – talk about the power of Bond.

The DB5 was first introduced into the murky world of MI5 back in the days of Sean Connery with Goldfinger and has since popped up for further Bond incarnations such as George Lazenby in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Pierce Brosnan in GoldenEye and Daniel Craig in Casino Royale (safari-suited Roger Moore had to make do with his Lotus Espirit). The Aston Martin even makes fourth place on the poll through the V8 Vantage, which Timothy Dalton’s Bond got to drive in 1987’s The Living Daylights (his was a 1986 Volante).

Elsewhere on the list, cars comfortable on the big screen performed well. The Jaguar E-Type that gave Austin Powers his Shagmobile claimed the joint second spot along with the Mini Cooper made famous in The Italian Job (the Austin Mini secured fifth spot). Comedian Rowland Rivron of Dave commented: “The car that dominates this survey is fun, fast and stylish so it’s no surprise it’s been named as having the cool factor, as it’s synonymous with one of our best-loved movie characters.”

Bond – popular? Who’d have thought it?
