Cinema release inspirations including Body of Lies
Get your winter warmers out Boxwishers, as those clever meteorological chaps reckon we’re in for a cold weekend here in Blighty. With temperatures expected to nosedive you might not fancy leaving the comfort of your home to wander outside, but if you do make it past your front door might we suggest a trip to your local multiplex? From a cutesy rom-com to a pulse-racing action thriller to a quirky black comedy, there’s an exciting array of new movies on general release from today for you to choose from and we’ve got the skinny on all of them…
If you see… Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe star as CIA agents in the Middle Eastern thriller from acclaimed director Ridley Scott – Body of Lies.
Why Not Read the novel by Washington Post writer David Ignatius that the film is based on. Rock out to the sounds of the long-awaited new Guns N’ Roses album Chinese Democracy, as one of its tracks “If the World” plays over the beginning of the movie’s end credits but does not make it onto the official soundtrack. Or watch some of Ridley Scott’s other movies examining the conflict between east and west such as Kingdom of Heaven and Black Hawk Down.
If you see… Kate Hudson’s Alexis caught in a love triangle with two best friends played by American Pie’s Jason Biggs and Employee of the Month’s Dane Cook in the rom-com, My Best Friend’s Girl.
Why Not Strap on some trainers and go for a run like Hudson’s Alexis who is training for a marathon. Alternatively, apply some razzle-dazzle and dress up in your most glamorous togs (we’ve got some gorgeous LBDs and party dresses) as per Alexis when she goes to a high school prom or listen to the song by US rockers The Cars that the film is named after on the movie’s eclectic soundtrack.
If you see… Sam Rockwell (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) star as Victor, a sex-addict that pays for his mother’s hospital bills by scamming people in the offbeat comedy, Choke.
Why Not Grab the novel that the film is based on by Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk. Watch some of director Clark Gregg’s inspirations for the movie’s complex but silly tone such as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, 70s cult classic Harold and Maude and Secretary. Or learn about Victor’s job as an historical re-enactor by heading to the website of international reenactment organisation, Histrenact.
