The movie’s only been in US cinemas for a week, but before fans could see just one reel of Twilight it’s star Robert Pattinson had been crowned the hottest male movie vampire in a poll by Moviefone. The US movie website also showed some love to Pattinson’s co-star in the teen romance Cam Gigandet (James) who polled third in the list. The film, based on the popular Stephanie Meyer novel dominates the top spots along with adaptations of other literary works, namely The Vampire Chronicles series by Anne Rice. The 1992 big screen version of the first in Rice’s neck-biting tales, Interview with the Vampire scored spots for Brad Pitt’s Louis (second), Antonio Banderas’s Armand (fourth) and Tom Cruise’s Lestat (eighth) with the top five completed by Stuart Townsend (fifth) reprising the role of Lestat in the third in the series, Queen of the Damned. But who’s the sexiest female vampire? Click over to find out.

The rest of the male ten sees cult classic The Lost Boys represented by Jason Patric’s Michael at six and Kiefer Sutherland’s David at ten – blonde mullet and all! The remaining spots are filled by Gerard Butler’s Dracula from Dracula 2000 at seven and Prison Break’s Dominic Purcell at nine for the as-yet unreleased Creek (though maybe he’s a better bet as Dracula in Blade Trinity).

The women are a less distinguished bunch, suggesting that top bloodsucking roles are hard to come by in Hollywood. Twilight only scores the number six spot thanks to Nikki Reed’s Rosalie with Salma Hayek’s sultry bar dancer in From Dusk Till Dawn winning the top spot (she also earned the best bikini accolade for the same role in a LOVEFiLM poll earlier in the year). Kate Beckinsale’s PVC-clad Selene is second for Underworld, 90s B-movie Bordello of Blood makes a surprise entry at three with Angie Everhart’s Lillith, the late Aaliyah follows in co-star Stuart Townsend’s footsteps by earning Queen of the Damned recognition at four and Monica Bellucci’s small-but-sexy part as one of Dracula’s brides in Bram Stoker’s Dracula gives her fifth spot.

The list continues with current bond squeeze Olga Kurylenko for Paris, je t’aime at seven, Sharon Tate in 60s comedy/ horror The Fearless Vampire Killers at eight, Kristanna Loken in Uwe Boll’s Bloodrayne at nine and lastly ex-porn star Traci Lords in comic book caper Blade at ten.

So there’s no room for Gary Oldman in Bram Stoker’s Dracula (when’s he’s young, not with the crazy white hair or as the foot-stamping bat) or Wesley Snipes in Blade. But who’s your favourite neck-chomper Boxwishers? Spill the beans – not the blood!
