Gadget of the week: LG VX9400 mobile phone

James Bond has his Sony Ericsson phones, Neo from The Matrix happily relied on his Nokia 8110 and by joining the ranks of these heroic leading men, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) has also snapped up a cool mobile in comic book caper Iron Man – the LG VX9400. LG, the South Korean electronics company happily signed on the dotted line with Marvel Comics in a promotional deal that saw not only Stark use their phones in the film, but also his PA, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) who snagged the LG KS20. However, it’s the VX9400 that has earned our gadget of the week spot.

These days it’s not enough for a mobile phone to help you make telephone calls and nothing else. As technology has improved so phones have become increasingly kitted out with other attractive features and nowhere is this more stunningly evident than in the sleek gadget that is the LG VX9400. First up, it looks good. Its distinctive and unique swing bar design allowing space for a large 2.2-inch LCD screen that can display over 260,000 colours and in amazing 240×320 resolution, yet remains slim, light and pocket friendly.

This screen is put to work with a 1.3 megapixel camera/ camcorder with flash and plenty of manual and automatic functions including a self-timer, multi-shot options and shutter sound customisation. It is the first LG phone to support live TV broadcasts enabling full-length TV shows to be delivered directly to your phone. It even has a 5-inch long antenna to help improve media reception.

Want more? How’s about stereo Bluetooth, an advanced Web browser, one-touch speakerphone, music player, Verizon’s VZ Navigator GPS Technology, plenty of organiser tools and a flight feature which allows you to turn off the phone functions and safely use it for entertainment purposes only when onboard an aeroplane.
