Get the sorority look from The House Bunny
Playboy bunny Anna Faris treats some sad sack students to the ultimate makeover
PLOT SPOILERS!
Step aside Trinny and Susannah and pack your bags Gok Wan for there is a new makeover queen in town and her name is Shelley Darlingson. As a Playboy bunny in new rom-com The House Bunny, the bubbly Shelley (played by Scary Movie’s Anna Faris) is a vision of bubble-gum flirtiness, all bright pinks and push-up bra but all this changes when she finds herself unexpectedly evicted from the Playboy mansion for being too old at 27 (“that’s 59 in bunny years”). This reversal in fortune sparks a bizarre career U-turn which sees Shelley become the house mother to a group of college girls much in need of her style skills. Hence the makeovers.
And we’re talking A LOT of makeovers. Usually style centric films have one big beauty session, think Sandy in Grease or Gracie Hart in Miss Congeniality, but The House Bunny is 97 minutes of pure makeover magic. Each of the seven sisters of the Zeta college sorority has their own fashion failings which they have to overcome, whether due to physical limitations (such as Harmony’s pregnancy bump) or psychological barriers (like Joanne’s use of a back brace she doesn’t need). Completing this circle of change is Shelley herself, who having waved her magic wand over the wardrobes of the students, experiments with a more toned down look in her bid to snag Oliver, a sweet nursing home administrator (played by Colin Hanks).
It’s all change for everyone – but don’t pack away your lipstick and hair-rollers just yet as the job is far from done. The cosmetics chaos continues as, having enjoyed the newfound male attention afforded them by Shelley’s influence, the Zeta girls realize they’ve compromised too much of their own personal styles. They then apply their new skills to their original looks, reaching a balance that is both chic and individual. Phew! Talk about makeover madness!
