Booth (David Boreanaz) is never far from danger, and being an army sniper or an FBI agent probably doesn’t help. Armed with his anthropologist partner, Bones (Emily Deschanel), and his team of ‘squints’ back at the Jeffersonian, he solves crime with a mixture of old-school police work and gut feeling. While the will-they-wont-they narrative plays on, Booth keeps cool with his FBI standard suit teamed with this Cocky belt buckle.
The Cocky belt buckle pops up all over the place in Bones, first making its appearance in season two’s The Boneless Bride in the River. Since then it’s become a staple in Booths wardrobe, lending a bit of comedy and colour to his sharp suits, along with his quirky socks. After shooting a clown from the top of an ice cream van (it’s a long story) he was sent to see psychologist Dr Gordon Wyatt, played brilliantly by British comedian Stephen Fry. Gordon Gordon, as he comes to be known, concludes that Booth’s socks and belt buckles are his little rebellions, and who doesn’t need a little rebellion every now and then?
But when Booth is kidnapped by the Gravedigger in The Hero in the Hold he, along with the ghost of his army buddy (obviously), uses his favourite belt buckle to cause an explosion and escape – like you do. After being rescued Bones buys him a replacement belt buckle because she thinks it’s ‘Boothie’. He’s impressed she managed to track one down – but we found it too. However, the buckle takes another blow when Booth has surgery to remove a brain tumour. After a successful operation, a dream filled coma and a bit of a soppy moment (hey, everyone’s allowed one or two) Booth is back to his old self – socks and Cocky belt buckle back in place.
As for the buckle itself its pretty hard wearing, as you’d expect from a gun-wielding, criminal catching FBI agent, with sterling silver plating. The image is coated in epoxy resin, giving it the shine that makes it stand out in any outfit. And we’ve found some other cool buckles if you’re not feeling quite so cocky.
