We don’t need to tell you that Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is one of the coolest films ever made. But today is Matthew Broderick’s birthday, so we’re honouring the determined high school student by looking at some of the best Ferris tees around. We’ve all seen the ‘Save Ferris’ one’s, and while they’re pretty cool, there are some more imaginative one’s out there.
Ferris decides that he needs to spend a day with his girlfriend Sloane (Mia Sara) and pessimistic best friend Cameron (Alan Ruck) before they all split up to go to different colleges. Getting a day off school might not seem like hard work, but when you’ve got the kind of plans Ferris does keeping the wool over your parents, principal (Jeffrey Jones) and sisters (Jennifer Grey) eyes isn’t easy. Follow Ferris’s rules to ‘Faking Out Parents’ with a tee printed with his three easy steps: 1. Fake a stomach cramp 2. Moan and wail 3. Lick palms.
Somehow he manages it and Chicago is their oyster. However, the threesome don’t get up to what truanting teens might do with a day off nowadays. They visit the Sears Tower and the Art Institute of Chicago, watch a game at Wrigley Field and take part in the Von Steuben Day Parade before dining at a very nice restaurant under the disguise of Abe Froman, the Sausage King of Chicago. And we’ve managed to find an awesome retro-style Sausage King of Chicago t-shirt, complete with a picture of a sausage wearing a crown.
After retrieving Cameron’s dads stolen Ferrari (which has in turn been stolen by two very lucky parking attendants) they speed back only to realise the amount of miles that have been added to it. But it doesn’t matter as Cameron accidentally crashes it into a ravine! If you’re a fan of Cameron, we’ve dug out his Caduceus Symbol shirt, which any true fan will recognise immediately.
Ferris walks Sloane home, dashes through some gardens and makes it back to bed just in time. Although Rooney and Jeanie still suspect him, the entire school has started a campaign to Save Ferris from this terrible illness he’s suffering from. We’ve added a traditional Save Ferris tee, along with an ‘I Saved Ferris’ one for good measure.
Created by John Hughes, king of the 80’s teen movie, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off has inspired popular culture in a way most filmmakers can only dream of. Other cool tees we’ve discovered are an ‘I love Sloane Peterson’ one and even one with Ferri’s distinctive vest printed on it! But we’ll leave you with Ferris’s immortal words (which have also made their way on to a t-shirt!): “Life moves pretty fast. You don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
What would you do with your day off if you were Ferris?
