Remember when you were a kid and your parents would do anything to keep you occupied on long journeys and rainy days? Stories, drawing and those stupid mini-magnetic board games you always lost the pieces to are all distant memories now; we’ve moved on Modern Warfare 2 and Assassins Creed. But there was one card game that holds a bit of nostalgia for us, and would probably be just as fun to play now as it was back then. Especially since Top Trumps have launched some pretty cool special sets, including ‘tournament’ games and film inspired decks.
We were totally impressed by this Top Trumps Tournament Star Wars edition game, which goes way beyond the usual deck of cards in a plastic case. This game comes with six sets of Star Wars edition Top Trumps, including the Top 30 Moments set, and the all new Top Trumps ‘hub’. You load 6 packs of cards into the hub them spin the dial in the middle and work your way through mini games to get the most points. So you can use the Star Wars decks traditionally or as a brand new game, and you can put any of your retro sets into the hub as well. And since the game was launched back in 1977 (coincidentally the same year the first Star Wars film was released) we reckon there must be some hidden away in lofts all over the world.
But if you’re looking to play the old fashioned game we’ve found some more modern examples to get you excited. Available for pre-order in the UK are Alice in Wonderland and Iron-Man 2 sets, and in the US we’ve found some G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen sets. There’s also a Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince set (surely Voldermort would win?), as well as the cool and classic Indiana Jones. So whether it’s a new game you’re looking for, or just something to take on days out (since the weathers getting better) there are some awesome new Top Trumps sets about.
