From Spidey to Iron Man and Howard the Duck to Blade, there have been a lot of Marvel movie adaptations. Some might not have met our expectations, and some have had terrible sequels, but it doesn’t matter. There’s always an action-packed storyline, plenty of comic book inspired fight scenes, cool costumes and often some lovely ladies – whether the girlfriend like Mary Jane (Kristen Dunst) or fellow hero like the Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson). All of this adds up to a couple of hours at the movie theatre, or on the couch, and we don’t think that’s a waste at all.
The infamous comic company has been producing our favourite pulp tales for years, having begun as Timely Comics way back in 1939. They introduced a number of popular characters and with WWII at the forefront of everyone’s minds the patriotic Captain America quickly rose to the top. After the war interests began to change and so did the name; Timely became Atlas Comics in the 1950’s and superheroes made a comeback. During the ‘Silver Age’ familiar faces reappeared with bright new artwork and more detailed back stories.
Marvel comics flourished during and after the 1960’s, and under Stan Lee’s direction the company created the Marvel Universe which allowed crossover between many different characters. Since then the popularity of comics has fluctuated but today they are extremely popular due to countless films based on them. And their current popularity has given way to floods of merchandise; not just t-shirts and lunchboxes but shoes, artwork and everything in-between.
Probably one of the coolest collaborations in the comic world has to be Marvel and Coloud. Coloud is a Swedish music company making very cool headphone. They launched their Marvel range last year and they have become an instant hit with comic and music fans alike. With 2009 marking Marvel’s 70th anniversary, Coloud created the range featuring characters like The Punisher, Wolverine, Iron Man amongst others. And the headphones are great quality, as well as looking ultra stylish, so you know you’ll be listening to great music while looking comic-cool.
