February can be a tough month for fashion; the shops are full of the new spring lines but it’s still freezing outside. Do you brave the weather in a floral dress or stick with your chunky winter knits? It seems Taylor Swift has the perfect solution to the problem – the plaid tunic. At first glance it might look like a typical checked shirt, something we’ve been seeing in the shops for months. But take a closer look and you might notice the longer length, the flattering shape and the lovely attention to detail.
We spotted girl of the moment Taylor in this lovely Anthropologie Cabin Fever tunic in the February feel-good film Valentine’s Day, in which she plays love-struck teenager Felicia. When she’s not telling the world how much she loves on-screen boyfriend Willy (played by her previous off-screen beau Taylor Lautner), she’s cheering on his football team and acting like a typical high school girl. Taylor said: “We didn’t really know what my character was going to be. We decided as the day went by that it was going to be this character that was really superficial, and thought she was awesome at dancing but really wasn’t. Hopefully it’s funny.” And it is, really genuinely funny.
Although Taylor doesn’t get much screen time in the ensemble rom-com, she manages to be intertwined in the narrative–being a school friend to the desperate Grace (Emma Roberts) and bumping into primary school teacher Julia (Jennifer Garner) in an elevator while she’s visiting Dr. Harrison Copeland (Patrick Dempsey). It’s during this brief encounter that we see her sporting her trendy tunic and showing off a giant fluffy white teddy bear, which we can only assume is a very sweet present from Willy.
Felicia wears her purple, pink and grey check tunic with a pair of simple black skinny’s, which could just as easily be substituted with leggings on warmer days. Teamed with a slouchy bag and a pair of simple patent brogues, she looks effortlessly cool. It’s an outfit that can easily be dressed up with some simple jewellery and a pair of heels, or worn on a casual day of shopping. And if it’s still snowing, why not throw on a sleeveless cardi for a smart and sophisticated look that’ll keep you warm? Although the Athropologie tunic she wears is no longer available in the pinky-purple tones there are still a few left in a turquoise colour scheme. And we’ve found some equally elegant tunics so you can steal her Valentine’s Day style, at least until the weather warms up.
