Last night Gossip Girl returned to the small screen for the second part of season three, and we’ve been looking back at some of the fashions from the last two seasons for some summer inspiration. And it’s no surprise to us that we’ve found it in the form of Blair Waldorf, resident Queen Bee and style perfectionist. While Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) sports the bohemian look, Serena (Blake Lively) goes for the super trendy high-fashion and Jenny (Taylor Momsen) rocks it out; Blair opts for a more preppy style. Whether it’s a matching Alice Band, a blouse under a dress or bright tights with mary-janes, we love her well put together looks.
Leighton Meester, who plays Blair, was so desperate to get the part that she studied the original Gossip Girl books and dyed her blonde hair brown in preparation. Hailed as the perfect villain we love to hate, Leighton has found fame in her role that has allowed her to pursue a music career (like co-star Taylor Momsen). And to top it off she’s done a bit of modelling, working with legends Bruce Weber and Sofia Coppola. Is there anything this girl can’t do?
The episode we found our inspiration in today is the premiere from season two, titled Summer Kind of Wonderful. After spending the entire first season getting to know the characters and drooling over their outfits, we’ve finally come to love and hate those Upper-East-Siders. And Blair is firmly in our love category, along with her on/off romance with the dapper Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick).
Blair wore several eye-catching outfits in the episode in question; her white lace dress to the White Party, green brunch dress and even managing to pull off a one-piece swimsuit without making it frumpy. But the one we had to recreate is her cute, almost 50’s, floral dress, which she wears when out on a bike ride with new beau James (played by Patrick Heusinger).
However, the ever perfect Blair was not trying to impress James but make Chuck jealous. And who wouldn’t be just that after seeing her on her Cynthia Rowley vintage-style bike in that gorgeous Alice and Olivia sleeveless dress. The dress has a full skirt (needed when your travelling about on a bike), and button up shirt-collar, making it just retro enough to look cool. In typical Blair fashion she teamed the dress with a bright pink waist belt, Lulu Guiness floral shoes and a wicker bag (matching her bike’s basket) from Kate Spade. She even swapped her trademark headband for a floral patterned scarf from Cara Couture.
Think you can pull off the look? Well grab your retro bicycle and our fantastic lookalikes and hit the Hamptons (or perhaps somewhere a bit more affordable.)
Is Blair the most fashionable Gossip Girl?
