For someone as famously fashionable as Jennifer Aniston there aren’t many costume changes in new rom-com The Bounty Hunter. We’re used to seeing the former Friends star strutting her stylish stuff on the red carpet or getting glam on the big screen in the likes of He’s Just Not That Into You, Love Happens and Marley & Me. And while there’s no denying that she looks absolutely incredible in The Bounty Hunter opposite Scottish star, Gerard Butler, her wardrobe’s kinda limited. Well, that’s what happens when you get caught by a bounty hunter paid to track you down and deliver you to jail.
The Bounty Hunter stars Jen as Nicole Hurley, a fearless reporter who skips a court hearing and soon ends up being tracked down by, of all people, her ex-husband Milo (Butler), a former cop making ends meet with whatever pays the rent. Being apprehended in pretty undignified fashion by her ex (she gets shoved in the car’s trunk), leaves little time for Nicole to re-apply her lippy let alone work some wardrobe changes and so she spends much of the film in her original sheer vest, pencil skirt and Manolo Blahnik pumps combo. And while this outfit still looks just as chic and sexy as we’d expect from Jen, it gets an appreciated style addition thanks to her Salvatore Ferragamo Sofia bag.
The Florentine designer label, most famous for its luxury footwear, has established itself as a real favourite with Hollywood stars in recent times. Emily Blunt hit this year’s Golden Globes with a SF Pewter Minaudiere in tow, while the likes of fellow fashion forward stars like Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Alba and Rachel Bilson have also been snapped by the paps with a little SF luxe to hand.
Madonna, Demi Moore, Gwyneth Paltrow, Eva Longoria-Parker and Jen even donated their own personal SF handbags to a charity auction to help victims of an Italian earthquake last year, yet arguably the most high profile celebrity SF handbag sighting was that of Suri Cruise, the pint-sized daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, who hit headlines when she and her celebrity mom were spotted with matching Sofias in adult and child’s sizes. Some critics got all stuffy about such a young child owning the swanky bag, but we say if you’ve got it, work it, and the Salvatore Ferragamo Sofia definitely has it.
The bag remains with Nicole throughout much of the frantic onscreen adventures which sees Jen unleashing her inner action girl (woo hoo!) and we can see why she’s so keen to hold onto it. The Sofia works a clever line between office appropriate business bag and more weekend-friendly casual accessory. It has both a shoulder strap (which is removable) and a top handle for quick handling, or simply throw under your arm as Nicole does in the movie. The rectangular shape, flap top and metallic clasp give it a distinctive look that really sets it apart, yet the soft leather means it’s not rigid like a briefcase but soft and feminine.
Nicole’s is black, however the Sofia is available across a range of colours which are routinely updated along with fabrications keeping it current and new while maintaining its place as a season-round staple of SF collections. This kind of amazing popularity is testament to the timeless, classic style of the bag despite its pretty hefty price tag. We’ve managed to find the gorgeous coral-coloured version still up for grabs on the Ferragamo website, yet if $1,890 is out of your budget (and if it’s not – lucky you!), we’ve got some cheaper alternatives that share the same sophisticated style.
