Hands up if you wanna look like a vampire? Well, if you’ve got your arm now wafting in the air (thanks for taking part) and if you haven’t but silently nodded (you’re not really in a place where weird limb flailing is done, we understand) then you’re far from alone. Vamps have never been cooler than they are now, having climbed from their coffins to become the trendiest of trendsetters. They’ve taken over literature, TV and movies and as a result the undead look is finding favour in fashion circles and not just your stereotypical goth-influenced clothes but in beauty as well.
And the best news of all? Apparently it’s good for us. As more and more of us aspire to the fair skin and pale glow of bloodsucking immortals, the more we’re shunning tanning beds with the number of skin cancer cases expected to plummet. Indeed, many cosmetics companies including Urban Decay and L’Oreal have reported that their lightest shades have become their biggest sellers, with Marie Claire magazine explaining: “Cosmetic companies have seen a 200 per cent rise in customers snapping up pale foundation powders and liquids, which coincides with the Twilight: New Moon film.”
Yes, Twilight. While the likes of The Vampire Diaries and True Blood have flown the bloodsucker flag on the small screen and the likes of Daybreakers, Let The Right One In and Thirst have had us spilling our popcorn at the cinemas, it’s The Twilight Saga that has become the (pale) face of the current vamp craze. Keen to help all budding vamps, Aromaleigh Mineral Cosmetics released a Twilight-inspired range of face powders and yet for those hunting high and low to perfect the elusive Cullen complexion, there are two officially licensed options now on release.
The first to hit store shelves was the Twilight Venom by fun cosmetics brand DuWop. Like its predecessor simply titled Venom, this is a stunning lip plumper that really works. On its introduction, DuWop warned that sales would be limited to two per customer (“Vampires may live forever, but this offer won’t!” joked their website) such was the demand, but now they’ve clearly revved up production on the item as it no longer seems to be in fear of running short. And keen to enter into the spooky spirit, the sales blurb is appropriately fun, saying that the Twilight Venom “is also the means by which Meyer’s mortals become transformed into vampires”. Sounds good to us.
And joining DuWop as a beacon of bloodsucking beauty is the Twilight Beauty range. This breaks down neatly into two separate lines aptly named Luna Twilight (for the more wholesome vamps and Bella wannabes) and Volturi Twilight (those of you looking to unleash your dark side like New Moon’s Italian royals), the creators saying: “The goal for Twilight Beauty was to create two beautiful and striking lines that women could fall in love with, much in the same way they fell in love with The Twilight Saga.”
These two lines offer every item you could need to complete your look, from mascaras to body shimmers, eye shadows to blushers, body mists to lip glosses, each in a wide array of shades to complement all skin tones. The products’ names keep the Twilight theme going with the Femme Fatale Lip Gloss coming in a deep red called ‘53 Chevy’ and the Volturi Twilight Reign Scented Body Mist in a scent named ‘Forbidden Fruit’ all adding to the thrilling sense of drama.
So whether you want to shimmer like Edward (Robert Pattinson), blush like Bella (Kristen Stewart) or smoulder like Jane (Dakota Fanning) there’s a product for you. We’re just waiting for the Jacob (Taylor Lautner) range of hair removal creams now!
Are the Twilight vamps the best-looking big screen bloodsuckers ever?
