Go retro with Ginnifer Goodwin's Lil' Sweet Betsey Johnson bikini from Big Love

In recent weeks we’ve been gradually shedding our winter layers and putting on something lighter for spring. This has seen us stock up on embroidered blouses as seen on Amanda Seyfried in Mamma Mia!, work the floral look like Blair (Leighton Meester) from Gossip Girl and lap up the sunshine with pastel sunglasses like those on show in 90210. But now that we’re firmly enjoying the spring weather, it’s inevitable that our next thought turns to summer.

For some of us, a proper holiday break might just be wishful thinking but that doesn’t mean you should miss out on all the hot summer fashions hitting stores at the moment. And nothing screams summer style more than swimwear and we’ve spotted the most gorgeous two-piece as worn by Ginnifer Goodwin in HBO hit drama, Big Love.

Ginnifer is a budding trendsetter away from the cameras having modelled for GAP and has been carving out a stylish screen presence as well in movies like He’s Just Not That Into You. Yet let’s be honest, Big Love isn’t really known for being the most fashion forward of shows, (Gossip Girl it ain’t), what with its subject matter of a polygamous Mormon family. However if there’s anyone in this unusual domestic set-up that’s gonna deliver wearable young fashion it’s Ginnifer’s Margene.

As the youngest of Bill Paxton’s three onscreen wives, Margene is perky, and positive. Her clothes are always feminine and pretty, her youth, innocence and energy reflected in her fashions contrasting with the older wives, Barb (Jeanne Tripplehorn) and Nikki (recent Golden Globe–winner, Chloë Sevigny). And it’s during a road trip that Margene reveals this rare Big Love style gem – the ‘Lil’ Sweet’ Betsey Johnson bikini.

True to Margene’s look, it’s cute and sweet with ruffles, skirted bottoms and bow detailing. The print is 50s retro, a combination of hearts and ditzy-print flowers, brought alive in bright and eye-catching primary shades of red, yellow and blue against a white fabric. It’s 100 per cent adorable and adds a really fun and flirty side to stripping off for summer.

Sadly the style is from last season and so isn’t available anymore, however we’ve dug up some alternatives which enjoy the same girlie gorgeousness. Now where’s that beach?
