Love lilac dresses with Miley Cyrus in The Last Song

Miley proves herself as an actress and fashionista.

The transition from child star to teenage actress can be pretty hard in Hollywood (think the Olsen twins or Lindsay Lohan). But Miley Cyrus seems to be doing pretty well as her Disney role of Hannah Montana comes to an end. She’s starring in a movie, working on an upcoming album, got a hot boyfriend and we suspect her bank balance is looking pretty good too.

But what’s the best way to transition from smiley, Disney channel star to young adult? Make a coming-of-age film of course. In The Last Song Miley plays Ronnie, a rebellious teen who’s forced to spend the summer in Georgia with her father. She hasn’t been happy since her parents divorced, and even gave up playing piano – a talent which had interested the prestigious Juilliard School (where her father used to teach.) But Ronnie is only interested in sulking and stomping about, much to the dismay of her parents (played by Greg Kinnear and (Kelly Preston) and little brother (Bobby Coleman).

But that all changes when Ronnie meets Will Blakelee (off-screen boyfriend Liam Hemsworth), a popular beach volleyball player who also has a love for animals. As Ronnie falls for Will and rebuilds her relationship with her father through their shared passion, music, all seems perfect. The film was written alongside the book, by author Nicholas Sparks who also penned The Notebook and Dear John.

Ordinarily we might be a touch embarrassed to say we like some of Miley’s clothes, Hannah Montana isn’t a style we usually aim for, but she’s got great style off screen and as we’ve seen from her Sex and the City 2 cameo, it can be great on it too. So we weren’t surprised to find ourselves staring at the gorgeous vintage style lilac dress she sports in some of the pictures. While the style (frilly and bouncy) might be a bit much for everyday wear, she’s inspired us to find some similar lilac prom dresses.
