Peer into the past with paisley dresses as seen on Melinda Gordon in Ghost Whisperer

As the weather begins to warm up and we turn our thoughts to summer, we start thinking about swimwear, sandals and summer dresses. This year there’ll be more maxi’s, plenty of nautical and loads of lovely floral dresses in the shops. But there was one pattern that stood out amongst the spots, stripes and florals and that was paisley. Due for a resurgence this autumn/winter, it’s already been seen all over the catwalks at London Fashion Week and is having an effect on the swimwear and dresses for summer.

We noticed Melinda Gordon (Jennifer Love Hewitt) sporting a paisley tunic dress back in season four of the supernatural season Ghost Whisperer. The DKNY Georgette dress’s floaty shape and loose sleeves, teamed with the dark paisley chiffon fabric, give it a super seventies feel. This bohemian look is so easy to wear in summer, whether on the beach or out shopping simply add some wooden beads, simple sandals (maybe even a straw hat) and you’re done.

Melinda struggles to help the various ghosts who pop up in her life, deal with the death and rebirth (well his soul has over taken a new body) of her husband, and look after her son who shares her gift. But while juggling all of this she manages to run a successful antique store, making her vintage style outfits fit in all the more. We love Melinda’s style, and actress Jennifer Love Hewitt has shown us all you don’t need to be a size zero to be beautiful.

While we recently admired Melindas strappy yellow number in Ghost Whisperer, this paisley dress is much more wearable. Keep your eyes peeled for more fashion from this show as Melinda has become an unexpected style icon for viewers. And actress (and pop star!) Jennifer has also proved herself to be a bit of a fashionista while promoting her new book The Day I Shot Cupid.
