It’s been a few years since Jennifer Lopez was leading a big movie. The Latino superstar, with an empire that includes everything from perfumes to pop music, restaurants to clothing lines, has been busy making babies with hubby, Marc Anthony and playing a self-help author in top sitcom, How I Met Your Mother, but now she’s back on the big screen in new rom-com, The Back-Up Plan and she’s looking as stylish as ever.
J.Lo plays Zoe a woman in her late 30s dogged by the ticking of her biological clock and so, determined to have a baby despite the absence of a man in her life, she undergoes artificial insemination. And on this fateful day, when she fully commits to a future without a baby daddy who should she meet but Stan (Aussie actor Alex O’Loughlin as seen in The Shield and the short-lived Moonlight), the first guy to come her way in a long time with real possibilities for romance. But as the sparks fly is he ready to commit to family life? Oh, you know the drill; it’s a rom-com!
And while Zoe might be struggling with all the headaches of a mom-to-be, she still manages to look effortlessly gorgeous, whether getting dressed up for a night out or just hanging out in her native New York – she even makes maternity wear look good! Though this isn’t really a surprise when you consider that Zoe’s a very in control character, someone who likes to ruthlessly plan every aspect of her life and this attention to detail definitely comes through in her show-stopping wardrobe. Everything is neatly coordinated with colours kept quite muted, accessories played up and a number of current trends worked (from nude shades to off the shoulder tops) helping her style seem fun, contemporary and oh-so-chic.
Being a career girl in the big city, Zoe can afford a number of designer items and casually flaunts such luxury labels as Yves Saint Laurent (her brown platform heels), Stella McCartney (her teal dress), Christian Louboutin (a number of stunning heels from pumps to boots), Lanvin (her off the shoulder slouchy navy top) and Burberry (her striped blue and white scarf). However, there’s one brand that really stands out – Diane von Furstenberg.
DVF is known for her flatteringly feminine creations, most famously the wrap dress, and it’s this eye for truly womanly shapes and styles that has snagged her such a pivotal spot in the curvaceous Zoe’s closet. She wears a number of DVF items, such as the Sailor Gavin pants in navy, yet it’s not clothing or shoes that has been the hottest talking point but Zoe’s Diane von Furstenberg Stephanie Slouchy bag.
This gold-coloured hobo bag makes a stunning accessory for any outfit and Zoe carries it with her throughout much of the movie, it blending seamlessly with her changing looks. Made from knitted leather it stands out, the woven appearance very on-trend and yet seeming unusual and quirky. Fully lined and with a sturdy leather strap and zip fastening it makes a reliable and practical investment that just happens to look fabulous too! It’s also been spotted on the arm of R’n’B fashionista, Beyoncé, proving that this is one of the hottest bags of the summer season.
