Hollywood has gone comic book crazy, and since the top ones (Spiderman, Batman, Superman, etc.) have all been done, they’re turning to the little known pulp heroes. With movies like Sin City, Persepolis and more recently Kick Ass we’ve seen a totally different side to the graphic novel adaptation. And it’s not stopping there as future releases include Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World starring Michael Cera and Jonah Hex with Megan Fox. So we’re quite excited for the all action comic-book adaptation, The Losers, hitting cinemas this week.
The Losers is adapted from a Vertigo comic book of the same name written by Andy Diggle and illustrated by Jock, both of whom worked on legendary British comic 2000AD. It follows a U.S. Special Forces unit made up of Clay (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Roque (Idris Elba), Jensen (Chris Evans), Pooch (Columbus Short) and Cougar (Oscar Jaenada), who are sent into the jungles of Bolivia on a search and destroy mission. While there they become the target of a mysterious enemy, known only as Max (Jason Patric), who instigates a lethal betrayal on the team.
Now considered dead they begin to plot their revenge, when along comes Aisha (Saldana); a tough girl with an even tougher attitude. She joins them in their mission to get their own back on Max, and it seems she has her own reasons for wanting the baddie dead. While The Losers doesn’t have the full on blood and violence of other comic adaptations, it’s got an old school action-and-comedy feel to it that we like. Think The A Team or Charlie’s Angels. There’s enough action to keep the boyfriend happy, but not so much that it leaves you feeling queasy.
Having starred in sci-fi flicks Avatar and Star Trek, Zoe may seem like an odd style inspiration. However, she is a fashion fanatic (just check out some of the dresses she wore to the recent awards ceremonies) and even owns her own fashion line called Arasmaci. So when we saw her in this utility inspired look in The Losers, we couldn’t help but notice how perfectly on trend it was. With her super tight grey treggings, loose vest and military jacket, she looks like she’s stepped off the catwalks at Balmain or Balenciaga. To give it the comic-inspired tough look she wears black leather gloves and boots, and classic Ray Ban aviators to top it off. Create your own modern military look with our picks from the net.
