When Glee began Quinn Fabray (Dianna Agron) was a stereotypical American High School student; head cheerleader, president of the celibacy club and dating the star quarterback for William McKinley High School’s football team, Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith). She proudly threw slushies in the faces of the less popular students and ruled the school. But everything fell apart when she fell pregnant and got kicked off the Cheerio’s by the formidable (and hilarious) Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch). And it turns out that Finn isn’t even the father of the baby; that title goes to his best friend Puck (Mark Salling).
She’s lost her Cheerio position, boyfriend and, obviously, status at the celibacy club, but she gains the friendship and respect of the members of the Glee club when she joins them in the run up to sectionals. Although her character has often been criticised, Dianna plays the hormonal teenager with confidence and emotion. And Glee’s creator Ryan Murphy even said: “when we cast Dianna as Quinn, she ruined the part for me. She was supposed to be the Cybill Shepherd, Last Picture show, so to speak, but she humanized it. She can cry at the drop of a hat. So now her character has a conscience, a soul, and great vulnerability.”
The massive change in Quinn’s role at the school is shown perfectly through her costumes, put together by designer Lou Eyrich. At the start of the series she was never seen out of her cheerleading uniform and ponytail, giving her a harsh and unapproachable air about her. Since leaving the Cheerio’s behind, her clothes have become softer and more feminine, complemented by her hair which now falls beautifully around her shoulders.
Quinn prefers delicate dresses and cardigans over the sweaters and skirts seen on her on-off enemy Rachel (Lea Michele). She favours on trend empire-line dresses and tops, which mainly come from higher end stores like Anthropologie, Nordstrom, and Bloomingdales. Most of her outfits are made up of pretty pastel shades like pinks and yellows, which she complements with cute hair accessories and metallic flats. And she wears a small silver cross around her neck, showing her compassionate side. These outfits combine a youthful innocence with a newfound maturity, giving us a hint at the confusion she feels over her future.
While we’re not condoning teenage pregnancy, Quinn does manage to look perfectly pretty and we love her simple style. We’ve put together a simple look inspired by the Cheerio turned Gleek, including a lovely pink sundress and silver shoes with matching cross pendant.
Should Quinn stick with Puck or ditch him and try and get Finn back?
