Over the years there has been a lot of Sex and the City merchandise, and that only increased last year when the first film was released. There have been the obvious items like DVD’s, books, Carrie’s trademark name necklace and even the ‘love’ keychain. On the wackier side there have been holiday decorations, shoes and even thongs!
When it comes to books there have been several including Love Letters of Great Men, Sex and the City: The Book and The Carrie Diaries. And with the second films release only a couple of weeks away a new 176-page book has been released, spilling all the juicy details on everything from the sets to the fashion. Called Sex and the City 2: The Movies. The Fashion. The Adventure. it features an opening letter from Sarah Jessica Parker and writer/director Michael Patrick King accompanied by a photo of the pair on set.
“It seems our adventures never end but I never imagined this one would take us so very far away from New York City. I was so glad it did, however, because after what proved to be an exotic, colorful, inspiring, difficult, incredible, unimaginable, and memorable seven weeks in Morocco, we got to come home. We leave ‘Sex and the City 2’ with memories of reuniting on fabled Fifth Avenue in New York City, riding camels, climbing the dunes of the Sahara, and navigating through the tiny corridors of the main souk in Marrakech.”
Michael is similarly emotional about the franchise, comparing it to what “the filmmakers during the Great Depression of the ’30s did — that might be in order for the sequel was a big, fun, decadent vacation for the girls on-screen as well as for the girls in the audience.” He also let slip that the opening scene will be an 80’s flashback, of which we’ve seen some hilarious photographs.
And the book includes detailed breakdowns of every outfit in the film, including Carri’e outrageous eighties ensemble. The images are annotated by Sarah, with the eighties one being described as the “hardest outfit to figure out, took about three fittings to get it right.” It’s made up of a Laura Ashley dress, Betsey Johnson corset, vintage Amy Barr shirt, Chantelle bra and Brian Atwood pumps. Add vintage jewellery and a taffeta headscarf, on which Sarah proudly says: “I had the idea to get a bolt of taffeta and distress it – wanted it to look like it was at the bottom of Carrie’s purse. Tied it myself.”, and the look is complete.
The book is out now and is bursting full of Sex and the City 2 secrets to keep you satisfied until the film hits theatres.
