Sex and the City 2 might be getting bad reviews from critics but the fans are loving the fab-fours’ return to the big screen. We can’t get enough of the fashion (check out all our SATC2 posts here), and today we’re looking at their stylish shades. Since the girls take a trip to Abu Dhabi in the movie (actually filmed in Morocco) there’s a lot of sun and therefore a fair few pairs of sunglasses. We took a peek at them and picked our three faves from both Samantha (Kim Cattrall) and Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker).
First up are the now iconic mirrored gold aviators Carrie wears on the poster, with her gorgeous white Halston dress and Chanel clutch. These reflective sunnies are the result of a collaboration between Belgian designer Bernhard Willhelm and the Berlin brand Mykita, and are fast becoming one of the top trends to emerge from the movie. The glasses are light and sleek; inspired by skier Franz Klammer’s mirrored eyewear during the 1976 Winter Olympics. We think the trend works just as well on the streets of New York.
Jee Vice shades also make a couple of appearances in the film, on both Carrie and Samantha. The brands founder and designer, Philippe Vergez, is passionate about women’s fashion, saying: “I want to give with Jee Vice a new way for women to feel their power through their look. I wish to inspire the desire to love and live their passions to fully commit themselves and elevate the perception of the contemporary woman”. Both Carrie and Samantha’s glasses stand out, with Carrie wearing the ‘Heated’ style in bright orange with her purple Halston dress. Sam goes for the ‘Red Hot’ model in purple, which she wears with this summer’s pastel trend – a lilac dress and turquoise waist belt.
While in Abu Dhabi the girls test out a few interesting outfits including turbans, jumpsuits, headscarves and even costume designer Patricia Field’s favourite outfit from the film – a Dior t-shirt with a full crinoline skirt. And with these outrageous holiday outfits they showcase more lovely sunglasses. Sam was spotted relaxing by the pool in a stylish pair of Roberto Cavalli Corniola silver shades with an interesting embellished black swimsuit (although we don’t think you could swim in it!)
While riding through the desert Carrie falls back on an old favourite; a large pair of Ray Ban aviators in Arista gold with polarized frames. Samantha goes for something a little different – Theo black ‘Commodore’ sunglasses, designed by Tim Van Steenbergen, with a sleek gold line running down the arms. We’ve found these listed on the Theo site but you’ll have to look into finding them in your location yourself through the store locator.
Looks like our summer trends are going to be very Sex and the City inspired! See the shades in action below.
