We’re only just getting over the Glee finale; from the club’s heartfelt rendition of ‘To Sir, With Love’, to Quinn’s (Dianna Agron) giving birth and Shelby (Idina Menzel) adopting Beth, to the final outcome of the Regional battle, it was an emotional episode. And it’s left us with a gaping hole in our lives (and TV schedules) that nothing else seems to fill. For now we’ll spend the summer watching our box-sets and listening to the CD’s, eagerly awaiting season two, but one way we’ll be showing our love for the McKinley High girls is by copying their fabulous fashion.
Glee creator Ryan Murphy summed up the episode saying: “The theme of Regionals is celebrity judges. Sue is now a nationwide celebrity. And Olivia and Josh only like choirs that sing their songs, so that’s funny. They wanted to do something that played against what people think about them… to play against type. So we gave them an opportunity. And it’s funny to have Sue as a judge when she doesn’t really know about [music], and she has it out for that darn Glee club.” And while they didn’t win, we know deep down that Sue (Jane Lynch) did the right thing in fighting Josh Groban and Olivia Newton John.
The final performances were amazing, and obviously New Directions should have won, but we have to admit we were slightly distracted by their outfits. Award-winning costume designer Lou Eyrich was equally excited about the dresses, saying: “[The girls in] New Directions wear retro-style gold brocade dresses by Betsey Johnson with ’60s-inspired hair and makeup, in a nod to the ’60s girl groups”. The ‘Goldie’ dress is now sold out, but we hear you can still pick one up in some stores and Betsey will be releasing a silver version in August. Get the look with our gold prom-style dresses, and try adding Bumpits for that 60’s-inspired beehive hairstyle.
For their performance of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, rival team Vocal Adrenaline’s girls also wore Betsey Johnson with Lou choosing the ‘Sugar and Spice’ style: “[They] wear very flashy and bold fuschia-and black-sequined dresses, which really pick up the light when they dance”. We still think Rachel (Lea Michelle) and co. look way better, so steal their style with our lovely lookalikes. Roll on season two!
