What is Boxwish?

It’s all about being inspired by movies. Whether that means getting the look of your cinematic idols, finding a cool movie gadget, driving an iconic film car, visiting a movie location or enjoying a film-inspired adventure – our goal is to bring movies to life.

Our Fearless (and friendly) Leader

A movie loving entrepreneur with a passion for the Internet, Tim is a former Management Consultant (and deck chair attendant) who aspires to create wonderful things on the web that make people smile. A graduate of the University of Bath School of Management, who formerly worked for leading London consultancy, PA Consulting, Tim founded Boxwish in June 2007 and now sits proudly as its CEO.

Questions we often get asked...
How did you come up with the idea for Boxwish?

Imagine you’re sat in a dingy hotel room with nothing for company but a trouser press and miniature kettle. That was the sad fate of our Founder and CEO, Tim, who was travelling on business back in October 2006. Glumly watching Nicolas Cage and John Travolta trade blows in 1997’s Face Off, his attention was caught by an onscreen dragonhead money clip. “Cor, I wonder where I could get one of those?” he silently mused and voila - Boxwish was born. Just as, before him, Newton had discovered gravity when an apple fell on his head, so Tim twigged that movie lovers want to be inspired by their cinematic idols. Six months later he quit his job and started on a journey to build something amazing that helped people realise their movie inspirations.

How do you feel about product placement?

For us, it’s simple. If the product plays an important part in the movie, appears in context and/or adds value in some way then we have no problem with it whatsoever. Appropriate use of real world products, from fashion labels to mobile phones, can add a sense of realism and authenticity to a movie. We are not massive fans of overt brand placement (although we love the spoof of unashamed tie-ins in Wayne’s World), but we do appreciate that brands are part of everyday life. In short, if it helps bring movies to life for film fans then it gets a big thumbs up from Team Boxwish.

How do you feel about celebrity culture and gossip?

We are not about celebrity, although we obviously understand that most people featured on our site are celebrities of some kind. We’re not here to tell you who’s dating who, who’s pregnant or who ate what for dinner last night. We’re not a celebrity site and we don’t do gossip. It’s about the movie, the inspiration. That’s it.
