eBay find: Patrick Swayze's screen-worn outfit from Black Dog
Posted by Team Boxwish 5 months ago
This week brought the sad news that Patrick Swayze has lost his battle with cancer. Although best known for his roles in Dirty Dancing and Ghost, he acted in many films in his career including the cult classic Donnie Darko. With an acting career spanning over 30 years, right up to the year he died, it’s no surprise there’s a fair amount of Swayze merchandise about. So in honour of a great actor, dancer and singer, this week’s eBay find of the week is the outfit worn by the legend in 1998 film Black Dog.
Black Dog see’s Swayze portraying an ex truck driver, Jack Crews, who was imprisoned for vehicular manslaughter and lost his licence. On his release he works hard as a mechanic, loving husband and father, but finds out his house will be repossessed if he does not pay the debts. His boss offers him £10,000 to drive a truck with a suspicious load across America, which he grudgingly accepts. The journey is rife with action as he is followed by the FBI, ATF and unhappy truck owner. Add to that his boss has decided to hold his family hostage until he reaches his destination and you get one tense journey. As he spends most of the time in his truck there’s no glamorous costume changes, and so this is the outfit he wears for most of the movie. In true stereotypical-trucker fashion the outfit consists of plaid flannel shirt with a white undershirt and blue Gap jeans.
Not only do you get the clothes but all of the accessories to go with this piece of movie memorabilia! There’s a brown belt, a medal on a chain, a copper bracelet and even the wallet complete with picture of his Black Dog wife and daughter. Also included is his leather cut off driving gloves, an essential for any truckers escaping the feds and bad guys all at once! The item comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Reel Clothes and Props, a trusted company dealing in authentic costumes. With over four days to go why not bid on this rare item now?
